EURAILSCOUT’s measurement trains can perform measurements on the overhead line whilst travelling at high speed. As well as measuring the height and horizontal position of the overhead line and carrying out mast detection and pantograph contact work, they measure the thickness of the contact line with great accuracy. Currently, EURAILSCOUT is the only company in the world that can measure the contact line thickness at a speed of 120 kilometres per hour (75 mph). The measurement uncertainty when using this method is just 0.2 millimetres.
Cameras make a continuous, non-contact survey of the contact wire to assess wire wear. The images are used to determine the width of the wear surface of the contact wires in order to enable subsequent calculation of the wire thickness of each contact wire. The images are recorded and stored every 5 millimetres.
